ShopHandmade (venue)

So here's another venue for selling online that I found. They have a lot of really interesting things going on. They are big into supporting the conservation of the Rainforests: "The clearing of forests produces more CO2 than all cars, trucks, and SUVs combined. Protecting endangered rainforests is the fastest, cheapest, and easiest way to help the environment and to reduce our carbon footprint.

We pay to offset the carbon footprint of everything sold via our site. We pay to protect a minimum of 25 square feet of rainforest for every item sold through ShopHandmade. We pay for this--it doesn't cost buyers or sellers anything. That 25 square feet sequesters the same amount of CO2 as was emitted in producing the average handmade item; including the raw materials and shipping the materials to and from the crafter and buyer. "

They also charge in an interesting way, you can either pay .25 a listing, and no advertisement will appear on your listing, or, you can go the sponsored route and they pay for your listing.

I also thought it was cool that a day or so after listing a few things, I received a notice from my "Google Alerts" (check into that, they'll let you know when your name is mentioned on the internet in a blog etc) that the listing was there. I had listed with several sites and that was the only notice I received, so they are getting picked up by the web-crawlers etc.

They aren't huge or very well known, but I can see that they are passionate about what they believe in. I think it's cool to support a venue that supports the artisan as well as the environment. Do give them a look. Http://www.shophandmade.com
